The
Story of Cool Thighs
Diane (my wife) and I went to Sturgis, SD. for the first time in 2002. If you haven't been there be sure to go. Motorcycling the Black Hills is the best. I can't say enough about the people we met there. Diane commented, if only Christianity could be more like people that ride motorcycles.
Upon leaving downtown Sturgis, Diane on her Heritage Softail, and me on my Ultra Classic, we discovered we were going the wrong direction. After getting the right directions we realized we had to go back through town again. With temperatures (and tempers) hovering near 100 degrees, and with 250,000 people in a town that you can see from one end to the other, I was not a happy camper. As we approached town (again) I noticed some bikers standing alongside their bikes. I was soon to find out why. As we approached the traffic and people walking out in front of you without looking, (what's that all about?) our speed was walk along. I started to notice my thighs getting very, very hot. After talking to a lot of bikers I found out they were having the same problem.
The
American way is if there's a problem let's fix it, so we developed
Cool Thighs. After making a prototype, someone had to test it.
Diane and I couldn't leave our jobs at the same time, so it was
left up to me to go on the road. Leaving Diane in tears standing
in the driveway on July 26th, 2003 (just knowing she would never
see me again), I left for a three week test drive, picking up
our daughter Hali, who had never been on bike in her life of 23
years. We headed for Banff, Alberta Canada. As long as we were
in Canada we went up to Jasper, then on into British Columbia,
back down to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Jackson Hole, Idaho, and
Cody, WY. We needed to take a break so we took in a rodeo. Remember
we where on a test drive. Leaving Cody we went up to Red Lodge,
MT. and over the Bear Tooth Pass, down to Custer SD, Sturgis,
then home - almost 6000 miles. The temperatures ranged from 50
degrees to 115 degrees and I never had a problem with hot thighs.
And, I have never had the problem since.
P.S. All along my Harley performed like it was developed; made in the USA. I'm damn proud of that. God Bless America. I would also like to thank Diane and Hali for putting up with this crazy old motorcycle geezer.
Sincerely,
Mike Garrett
